Grand-mère: What?
Chronology
Julian, who is struggling to fit in at his new school after being expelled for treating Auggie Pullman, is visited by his grandmother and retold the story of her attempts to escape Nazi-occupied France during World War II. Originally set for release on September 16, 2022, it was pushed back to October 14, 2022. Later that month, the film was quietly removed from the schedule and pushed back to August 25, 2023 due to poor performance on an unspecified date in the fall due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Grandmère mentions that Julian was expelled from Beecher Prep as a result of his bullying of Auggie in Wonder (2017), however, in this film, Julian was never expelled from Beecher Prep for bullying Auggie. He was given a two-day suspension, and when his parents found out, they decided to withdraw him from school at the end of that school year. Julian Albans: Right now, I’m trying to fit in. my motto since I left my old school.
Julian Albans: Whatever
Julian, you didn’t leave your old school. You were expelled for being cruel to another boy. You know what I mean. If I learned anything back then, it was to just mind your own business. Don’t be mean, don’t be nice. Just be normal. Grand-mère: And this is what you learned?
To be normal?
Julian Albans: What’s wrong with normality? Grand-Mère: Nothing. And everything.. Watching Miracle (2017). It Can’t Be Wrong written by Kim Gannon, Max Steiner Starring Vera Lynn. This movie deserves more attention!!! I read the graphic novel and the novelization of the movie beforehand and was completely in love with it.
And I was really impressed by her performance
So I was desperately waiting for the movie to finally be released (which took a long time due to several delays, but it was worth the wait.) I had very high expectations for the movie and I was not disappointed! They were super close to the original story and masterfully transformed it into a film that invites you to dream, but also moves you to tears. The film is incredibly moving and quite heartbreaking, but at the same time so incredibly beautiful and magical. I think they managed a wonderful balance between teenage romance and historical narrative about Nazi-occupied France in the 1940s. I especially enjoyed Gillian Anderson’s performance, which was excellent! Although she had (as expected) a fairly small role, she did incredibly well again. Especially later in the film (which I can’t say because I don’t want to spoil it) her performance was heartbreakingly impressive and convincing.
WATCH THIS MOVIE
But not only was Gillian’s performance great, Ariella Glaser and Orlando Schwerdt, who played the main characters Sara and Julien, really impressed! And there’s one Helen Mirren as the grandmother? So overall a beautiful film that deserves all the praise it can get!
